A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a membership program and direct way for members to buy local and seasonal foods directly from farmers. Each share includes an assortment of nutrient-dense produce (about the equivalent of a paper grocery bag). Produce and other items are curated by our Farm Team based on what is fresh and ready to harvest that particular week. Your CSA membership directly supports Elawa Farm Foundation's mission.
This season, we're featuring 3 types of CSA shares: Full-Diet CSA, Produce-Only CSA, and a Monthly Meat Share.

Our Full-Diet CSA is a partnership between Elawa Farm and other local farms and businesses to bring you an assortment of high-quality options for a complete diet. We're partnering with other farmers and producers in the area to offer our members sustainably grown vegetables, fruits, mushrooms, bread, eggs, grain products, and more! We're offering two pick-up frequencies - weekly and bi-weekly.
Restored to the original layout from 1918, the vegetable garden at Elawa Farm produces more than 9,000 pounds of sustainably-grown vegetables, herbs, and cut-flowers. Two acres are cultivated each season through the dedicated work of our Farm Team and Volunteers.
Wild Trillium Farm grows with the intention to leave the Earth healthier than it was before, dedicated to continuously learning about sustainable agriculture and its impact on our world. Their goal is to supply folks with local, healthy, seasonal produce that they may not have access to while also working to tip the scale of our food system to be in a better balance.
Tim and Sarah Roth dreamed of having their own farm. And in 2020, that dream became a reality and thus Living Light Farms came to be. They knew they wanted something different, "A way of farming that was better for our animals, better for the land, and better for us. The result is pastured, clean, hormone and antibiotic-free, ethically raised livestock and eggs." Tim and Sarah are excited to offer their products to our community!
Mother Fungi is a gourmet and medicinal mushroom company founded by William Gregg in 2017 in Missoula, MT with a second location in Chicago, IL that opened in 2022. It was founded with a passion for connecting communities with high quality and locally cultivated gourmet and medicinal mushrooms.
Crusty breads, flakey pastries, craveable cookies and much more are available from Bootleg Bâtard's full-line artisan bakery. Bootleg Bâtard prides itself on choosing the highest quality ingredients, featuring seasonal and local produce when possible. They use time-honored techniques to draw out the very best flavors within each ingredient. Gentle mixing and long fermentation give signature flavors to their hearth-baked breads.
Coming from a background in restaurants, John and Halee have a unique perspective that allows them to cross the line between farmers and chefs. With their combined mentorship and access to productive land, this dynamic duo is committed to farming the land organically. John and Halee are committed to producing quality feed for organically-raised animals and growing nutritious staple foods for people, including milling grains and dry beans.
Molino Tortilleria is a family-owned and operated traditional corn tortilleria that is dedicated to supporting agricultural diversity and cultural preservation. All of Molino's corn is sourced ethically & eco-consciously, helping to support Organic, Non-GMO farmers in the United States.
"Corn is at the heart and foundation of everything we do at Molino. Through our strategic partnerships and intentional relationships, we’re fighting back against monoculture and helping to preserve heirloom maíz as well as the process of making fresh nixtamal masa."
Funks Grove Heritage Fruits and Grains was started to honor the legacy of Funks Grove, IL and the generations of farmers that have stewarded the land since the 1840s. In 2016, they started their first orchard and grain plantings, and since then have developed food products that make the best of our own crops and those of our neighbors. All of their crops are grown without the use of synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Their grains are milled by Hazzard Free Farm in Pecatonica, IL.
Pasta Pappone began in 2011 in Chicago with Jon Mulholland selling his products at local farmers markets. The company mixes herbs, vegetables, and spices into their pastas and then each batch is cut and dried using slow, time-honored techniques. High quality, all natural ingredients with no additives, preservatives or egg makes their pasta a cut above the rest. They strive to upgrade your simple pantry staple into a mealtime indulgence.
Teffola started growing the teff (a fine grain) in 2015 after years of struggling to break even due to plummeting prices for traditional crops like corn and soybean. Teffola is championing ancient grains in delicious products to bring awareness to the flavor and nutrition they inherently have. They care deeply about creating products that are low in sugar, vegan, and gluten-free for the health-aware consumer.
We're continuing to provide our CSA members with the best of what we’re growing in our fields. We periodically supplement with produce from other local farmers to deliver a broad array of sustainably grown items as they become available throughout the growing season.
Example Box:
Lettuce Mix
Carrots
Summer Squash
Cucumber

We’re partnering with Living Light Farm from central Illinois to provide you with locally sourced, pastured-raised beef, pork, and chicken! This season, our meat share CSA will run monthly for seven months and include 15 pounds of pre-selected variety of frozen and packaged meat cuts, including beef, pork, and chicken.
In addition to being our egg supplier for our full-diet CSA share, we're partnering with Tim and Sarah Roth from Living Light Farms on this meat share program.
Tim and Sarah have been cultivating their land for three generations. Their children make a fourth. They're personally invested in the well-being of the animals that live on farm and in the fertility of the soil. They seek to mimic nature, to embrace its natural rhythms, and to respect the innate cycles found therein.
They have learned over the years about alternative, humane ways to raise livestock without the use of hormones and antibiotics. What resulted is what you see here: pigs that root in the grass, eat grubs, and warm themselves in the sun; chickens that live in fresh air, catch bugs, and scratch and peck to their hearts’ content.
Pick up will take place at Elawa Farm (1401 Middlefork Drive, Lake Forest) Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. - 1 p.m.
In addition to your CSA products, you also will receive a weekly newsletter via email that includes information on recent farm activities, information on how to store and prepare a highlighted or featured item, and recipes.
Please inform us of any vegetables that your household won't eat and we'll do our best to provide you with a replacement item.
Yes! If, for example, you're interested in adding a meat share to your full-diet CSA share, you may do so by purchasing them separately.
If you're unable to pick up your share during our pick-up time, you have a few options. You can have someone else retrieve your share for you on your behalf or have someone else pick up your share to keep for themselves. You can also make arrangements for a Monday pick up or have us donate your share. Unfortunately, we're unable to make up any missed weeks and cannot accommodate pickups outside of our normal business hours.
Due to nature of this program and limited quantities, orders are non-refundable. We can offer to redesignate payment from a subscription to a donation and issue a tax receipt. If you have further questions about our cancellation policy, please contact us.
For additional information about our CSA shares, please contact our Field Production & Distribution Supervisor, Ana Poznanski, at apoznanski@elawafarm.org.
