2023 Event Attendant

 

Elawa Farm is a historic, non-profit farm located in Lake Forest, Illinois. Elawa Farm Foundation’s mission is to steward a historic farm that enriches greater Lake County as a center for experiential learning to broaden access to education, nutritious food, and our local food system. We gather community through food and agriculture with a sustainable farm, weekly market, learning kitchen, and educational programming for youth and adults.

Elawa Farm Foundation is seeking a part-time Event Attendant to assist with private and public events. These activities include event setup and teardown, assisting clients during their event, and monitoring the facility. Events include weddings, birthday parties, wedding/baby showers, corporate rentals, and fundraisers. Most events occur on weekends and weeknights.

Responsibilities

  • Greet event clients and vendors upon their arrival and act as the Elawa Farm Foundation liaison throughout the event.

  • Assist with the setup and teardown of private and public events, including moving chairs and tables, unlocking doors, and guiding clients around the facility.

  • Monitor the facility before, during, and after the event. These activities include general upkeep, mopping up wet floors, and restocking the restrooms.

  • Ensure clients adhere to the General Guidelines portion of the event contract.

  • Enforce the policies of Elawa Farm Foundation to event clients and guests (e.g., no

    smoking, no trespassing in restricted areas, no trespassing on adjacent properties).

  • Ensure the event is not causing a nuisance to the adjacent neighbors by monitoring

    noise and music levels and enforcing the curfew time.

  • Notify the Event Coordinator and/or Executive Director of any emergency situations.

  • Ensure event ends on time, as established by client and Event Coordinator.

  • Conduct walk-throughs with clients, caterers, and/or event planner for cleanliness prior

    to end of event.

  • Turn off lights and lock up the facility once all clients and guests depart the facility.

Qualifications

  • Highly professional communication skills with event clients and vendors

  • Composure in a high-stress environment with clients and guests

  • Confidence with communicating and enforcing the rules (e.g., no smoking) to event

    clients and guests, and in a professional manner

  • Comfort in locking up facility and being the last to leave the property at night

Physical Requirements

  • Requires the ability to setup and teardown tables and chairs.

  • Requires the ability to move frequently around the facility and outdoor lawn to assist

    clients and monitor the event.

  • Requires the ability to ascend and descend to retrieve items from basement, as needed.

  • Requires the ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.

    Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. Status: This position is part-time and at-will.
    Compensation: Hourly rate is $18/hour.

    Schedule: The schedule is dependent on Elawa Farm Foundation’s private and public bookings. Hours are mostly on the weekends and weeknights during the busy season of May – September. A schedule of booked events will be provided during the interview.
